Johnson Grass

After Dad’s return, he did some work for BDM working rapid runway repair. I remember his telling me about Johnson grass. That’s that flat clumpy grass that can survive a convoy of trucks running over it. We had a bunch of it in Texas. There was a study about alternate runway surfaces. Dad had suggested Johnson grass. By the time the committee was through, it had become “vegetation”. Funny thing, Dad had the last edit and it was once again “Johnson grass” in the final version.   ~Kurt
